All Children are Protected from Violence, Abuse and Neglect
During the last phase, SCS focused on advocacy for policy formulation and amendments. This new phase will focus more on the establishment of national systems and mechanisms for child protection where the community and civil society as well as the children will be involved. Competence and institutional capacity development of partner organizations involved is one of the main dimensions of this plan. Children will be part of the peer-to-peer protection as well as part of the advocacy and monitoring.
Save the Children Sweden added value
SCS team will be supporting partner organisations to apply child participation, non-discrimination, right to survival and best interest of the child within their action and strategies This will be possible through the technical capacity of the team to mainstream Child Rights Programing, develop child protection tools, policies and protocols. The local team will share learning and experiences with the regional team as well as other actors in the region and the alliance to bring expertise to the country.
Approaches
SCS will implement its child protection interventions through a combination of approaches derived mainly from the Compass’s four working methods stipulated. These can be summarized as follows:
· Data collection and analysis will be the base for the evidence-based advocacy work to be undertaken by SCS and its partners.
· SCS and its partners will be proactive in organizing forums to engage duty bearers with partner organizations and children and actively participate in all relevant forums organized at national and/or regional levels to discuss general or specific child protection issues.
· Institutional capacity development is very important as the realization of the objectives and sub-objectives includes NGO monitoring and reporting roles including for children own organizations and groups.
· Support to competence development in the areas pertaining to child protection, gender-based violence, child and family empowerment, child-to-child…etc
· SCS child protection policies will be discussed and shared with all SCS partners and encourage them to adopt or adapt it and have their own.
· SCS national and regional child protection officer will work more closely together and keep links with relevant actors in MENA e.g. UNICEF, UNHCR, SC Alliance members, UNRWA, Arab League, HCCs/HCMCs…etc.
· SCS will make sure that important SCS/SC child protection material is available in Arabic including child friendly versions.
· Child protection interventions will be implemented in close coordination with the education, civil society/CR and when relevant the emergency thematic plans and staff responsible.
· Fundraising to complement the grants from the main SIDA framework and to be able to support the commitments towards the technical and financial support to the duty bearer when seen necessary and pre-requisites for the fulfilment of the child rights to protection.
