Emergency Preparedness Planning (EPP)
Children in oPt daily experience exposure to protection risks such as physical harm, psychosocial distress, involvement in armed groups, family separation. Particularly, the Gaza Strip has been theatre of military incursion, targeted killings, internal fights, siege and man-made natural disasters.
There is therefore the need to develop a strategy to ensure protection and care to all children during emergency is very high. SCS will develop national Emergency Preparedness Plans to ensure immediate and quality response to children’s needs focusing on immediate relief, protection and education during the first phase of emergency and early recovery.
Furthermore, two pilot projects will be implemented in areas most at risk, which will focus on developing with communities Emergency Preparedness Plans and Child-Led Disaster Risk Reduction Programs. The pilot projects will contribute to enhance communities’ preparedness to emergencies. When it comes to the lead of the Education cluster in oPt, the work is in its start-up phase but there is a clear Alliance coordination between US, UK and SCS for the lead in partnership with UNICEF.
