Rewrite the Future

In 2004 Save the Children Alliance began the Global Education Challenge: Rewrite the Future, aiming to bring education – and hope – to 3 million children living in conflict-affected areas and improves the quality of education for 5 million additional children by 2010. Article 26 in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that everyone has a right to education; this declaration was made in 1948 at the General Assembly of the United Nations and until this day not everyone enjoys this right. 43 million children around the world live in countries wracked by war and conflict and are left without a chance to go to school.

Save the Children’s Rewrite the Future campaign will run across twenty countries, helping to build schools, train teachers, and provide teaching materials, while advocating for governments and international donors to make education for children a top priority.

There are four main objectives of the Rewrite the Future campaign:
- 3 million children affected by conflict to gain access to education
- 5 million further children affected by conflict to benefit from higher quality education
- Education established as a recognized means for protecting children affected by armed conflict - Increased educational resources for children in countries affected by conflict
