A Civil Society for Child Rights in the MENA region

The overall goal is to ensure that child rights CSOs effectively monitor the protection and fulfilment of the rights of children in the region and hold governments accountable for realising the rights of children.

Changes will be sought at the level of policies and practice, including working on the legal environment in which CSOs operate and increasing the level of interaction between civil society and authorities.

The TP builds on the experiences gathered during the previous period with regards to participatory approaches, namely the promotion and strengthening of child-led organisations (children’s parliaments), the use of Animate-It, the strong child participation approach developed during the UN VAC consultation and the child-led initiatives used during the emergencies in Gaza and Nahr el Bared.

The upcoming period will witness increased work with regards to non-discrimination. Work will be undertaken to strengthen the capacities of partners to collect and analyse data to better identify groups at risk and groups that are being excluded and provide a more solid basis upon which to build projects and advocate more effectively for the development of inclusive programmes. A regional project targeting 17 countries of the region will contribute to the above goal and objectives.

Country-specific projects will, in some cases, act as national pilots that could potentially be expanded to a regional level.

Save the Children Sweden added value

The objectives are complemented by a set of five SCS value added objectives that address the organisational capacities of partner organisations, the mainstreaming of child-rights based approaches and of child rights themselves, networking and advocacy and, finally, research, analysis and monitoring (including alternative reporting) processes.
