The aim is to support and strengthen the capacity of existing civil society networks and NGOs. The overall objective is to support the effective development and implementation of regional and national policies, strategies and legislation in line with the CRC. Civil society organisations and children in the MENA region will play an active role as advocates and active development partners for the rights of the child.
Save the Children Sweden added value
SCS has reached with its current partners in Lebanon a stage at the protection level when they are capable to have a practical approach to the CRC. Hence, the added value of SCS at this stage is to provide them with international expertise to further build their capacities enabling them to better analyze the child right situation in the country, to network, to integrate CRP approaches in their strategic plans and to advocate for changes based on their quality alternative reports. SCS Lebanon office is considered as a reference in the country whenever a CRP training is needed as it has been a pioneer in this area.
Approaches
During the 2009 and 2010s, SCS will focus mainly on strengthening the capacities of partner organisations and other relevant stakeholders. By the end of 2010, SCS will support local partners in their efforts to ensure the protection and promotions of children’s rights in Lebanon and in their role as watchdogs, mainly through advocacy work. In terms of research, SCS will support partner organisations in producing country profiles and regional analyses, both of which will be used as monitoring and advocacy tools for the rights of the child. In terms of direct support, it will include support to children in the use of advocacy tools such as Animate-It and in disseminating their opinions and recommendations about issues that concern them.
