The total number of Palestinian children arrested in Israeli jails since the beginning of the second Intifada in September 2000 exceeds 6,700. These children range in age from 12 to 18 years. As of May 31st 2009, a total of 337 Palestinian children were being detained in Israeli prisons, four of whom are girls. The great majority of children detained in Israeli prisons are waiting for trials and conclusion of their proceedings.
