20th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child - Tool Kit

Since its adoption in 1989, the Convention on the Rights of the Child has served as the basis for Save the Children’s work and guided our work both in terms of focus and working methods. The achievement of Child Rights and the CRC is our "living frame."

This coming year is the 20th Anniversary and as such Save the Children across the globe is planning a series of events with the aims

  • To strengthen children’s rights globally through recommitment from states to the implementation of the CRC
  • To strengthen Save the Children’s profile as the number one child rights organisation recognised as the main international defender of the Rights of the Child

CRC Fact Sheet

General measures of implementation for the Convention on the Rights of the Child

Children have become more visible over the last 20 years and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) has led to a shift towards considering children as human beings with rights of their own.

This paper intends to give you ideas on how to further strengthen children’s rights in your country. More facts can be found in the impact study on the follow-up and monitoring mechanisms of the CRC, that is coming soon.

These are your rights(the manual)

These are your rights (Inspiration material)

'These are your rights!' is a book aimed at children explaining their rights. Each article of the UNCRC has a dedicated section complete with text and images which gives examples of what these articles may mean in a child’s daily lives. The pictures encourage colouring and work as a starting point for discussions with children. Save the Children Sweden recommends to work and use the second part (inspiration material) of this booklet with children aged between 5 and 9 years at pre-school and school.

Listening to children means taking them seriously, and taking them seriously means acknowledging that they have something to say, and that it is worth listening to.

What difference has the Convention on the Rights of the Child made? AR and EN

As the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) celebrates its 20th anniversary, it is an opportune time to ask how the observations have resulted in positive and lasting changes in the lives of the children.  Save the Children Sweden has attempted to study the impact of the concluding observations at the national level, based on Save the Children’s experience in Estonia, Nepal, Peru, Uganda and Yemen.
